Spinning and Dyeing Demos
A lover of textiles, I learned to knit and sew from my mother. In earlier days I did custom dressmaking, often with handwoven Irish woolens and lovely English and Indian cottons. Now, a dream come true, I now shepherd a flock of Merino and endangered CVM~Romeldale sheep, a herd of Cashmere goats, and numerous finely feathered chickens.
Romeldale~CVM grow very fine, “next to your skin” soft wool in a range of natural colors. I handspin a select number of fleeces, while the majority of fiber is sent to a small Vermont mill where it is processed into roving and yarn. To compliment the whites, browns, and greys, I naturally dye small lots to add color to the palette. Whole fleeces and roving in natural colors are also available.
I have also crafted a collection of contact dyed silk scarves, pillows and wall hangings, small hand-bound books and photo note cards inspired by the natural beauty of my farm. When time permits visitors and those interested in shepherding, are welcome for tours of the farm.
