I grew up in New
England, and have lived in Westminster West since
1984, except for an extended visit to California for
the last six years. I'm now back, and excited about
my new dyeing area, as well as the glorious studio
I had previously. I make bedquilts and hangings, as
well as smaller items like couch & balsam pillows.
I also have a line of notecards printed from photographs
of my work. I have several pieces on hand at any one
time, and am happy to open my studio to anyone with
a serious interest in my work; call for an appointment.

I've been a fiber artist for more than 25 years, and
color has always been of foremost importance to me.
I start with white cotton cloth, and, using fiber
reactive dyes, am always finding new ways to color
it.
I try to "listen" to what the fabric "wants",
setting lengths of my hand-dye to best advantage.
Sometimes this results in quite complicated piecing,
but often the work is fairly simple in construction,
though rich in visual effect.
Leafhenge (right) is a large wallhanging.
The focal point is a fabric I colored by using artichoke
leaves as a resist. I rolled over each one with thickened
dyes, building layer upon layer of different colors.
The same sort of cloth is used as the center of Butternut
(below), in an even more minimalist work.
The main border fabric uses maple leaves as a resist
over an already-dyed piece of cloth ( a sudden thundershower
added excitement to the dyeing process, as well as
to the cloth itself!) |
