Woodworking has been a very important part of my life for well over 50 years. I fooled around in my grandfather's shop when I was a kid, and became seriously devoted to woodwork shortly after I got out of college, when I had the time and space for it. Having been a mechanical engineer, and a mathematics teacher, I find that woodwork is a perfect blend of art and technology. It continually presents problems to be solved, and challenges of precision to be met. My grandfather and I both went to M.I.T., whose Latin motto is "Mens et Manus" - mind and hand. It fits both of us perfectly.
I have made and repaired lots of furniture, and have done cabinetry, architectural woodwork, and some musical instruments, namely harpsichords, clavichords, and hammered dulcimers. Lately I have also become interested in some purely sculptural forms, inspired by and analyzed with mathematics. I accept commissions, and am always glad to have visitors drop by to visit and talk.
